Teo and Marsha's Experiences in Buenos Aires

  1. Marsha remembers a special dance she had with a milonguero at Torquato Tasso Milonga in Buenos Aires. The man felt a tenderness and sweetness about Marsha and created a dance all around this sweetness. At one point he put her on each knee like she was a cherished loved one in his life. This was truly a three-minute romance. Marsha loved it, and he could feel that she was enjoying it, so he was happy giving her this experience. He was so touched by the dance that he later invited Marsha and I to a private tango party at his friend’s home in Buenos Aires.

2. Another night, Teo danced with three young women sitting at the same table. Two were Argentine and one was French. The first Argentine woman loved close embrace and was very affectionate and passionate. The French woman loved to have fun and enjoyed intense dramatic moves. She loved to tease and flirt and be playful.

Teo thought the third woman was going to be the same, but she was very different. She felt the music deeply and had a tender feeling about her. She enjoyed romance and wanted a smooth, lyrical dance with no drama or abruptness to jar her out of her reverie. Teo danced the way the ladies most enjoyed dancing, and they loved dancing with him.

3. Marsha danced with many Argentine milongueros in Buenos Aires who we were very sensitive and yielded to her desires on the dance floor. They gave her time to move the way she wanted and to do some social adornments for him. And they show their appreciation for the special show she put on for them. One Argentine man in Miami started fanning himself when Marsha did one of her high kicks and an amague while looking in his eyes. He said, “You are going to give me a heart attack!” She loved his vocal response to her teasing antics and he was having a great time dancing with her!

4. Lillian had the reputation of being one of the best if not the best female dancer at El Beso in Buenos Aires. As soon as he could he got a dance with Lillian. She was amazed at his dancing and kept asking him how long he had been in Buenos Aires. She thought he lived there. When he told her. “Three days”, she could hardly believe it.

5. When Teo and Marsha first arrived in Buenos Aires they went by themselves to Salon Canning on a Sunday night. This is the night reserved for milonguero-style tango dancing. Many milongueros were there.

The dancing was superb! Upon entering the milonga, Teo and Marsh noticed how calm and elegant it looked compared to American-style Argentine tango they witnessed in the states. They were greeted warmly by the Argentine host and seated at a table up front.

They watched the dancers a few minutes then decided that they could dance here. A hush fell over the room as they got up to dance. You could almost feel that everyone in the room was holding their breath to see how Teo and Marsha would dance. They were worried that they might dance in a way that would spoil the beautiful vibe of this milonga.

When Teo and Marsha danced in milonguero-style tango and they fit beautifully in the flow of all the other dancers, the room breathed a unified sign of relief. One milonguero-style tango teacher came up to them after the dance and congratulated them on their proficiency and style. He said that his partner also really liked the way they danced.

6. One night they were invited to a tango barbeque on the rooftop of a Buenos Aires home owned by an American lawyer and his German wife. The organizers of some of the most important milongas in Buenos Aires were there. Teo and Marsh danced with all these milongueros and milongueras with ease and had a great time. They fit right in with all these top dancers.

7. On another occasion Teo and Marsha visited a Wednesday night milonga where Veronique and Thierry of Paris were performing milonguero-style tango. They danced all night milonguero style tango. The women organizer of the milonga came up to them and wondered how they got to be such good dancers, even though they were not from Buenos Aires. She said she believed they danced better than most people in Buenos Aires. She said, “You must practice a lot”. On that same evening a man dancing with Marsha was also very impressed with her ability to dance milonguero-style tango and gave her a lot of praise.

8. In New York City at Coco and Reba's New Years eve Tango Party last year many people were watching us dance and many of them came up to us and praised our dancing.  One women said," I can't understand why you two are not doing a performance tonight!"

9. But what really distinguishes us is our ability to feel the music and connect with our partners, giving them our heart. One woman told me that I have such a great heart connection that when she sees me she has this urge to run up to me and throw her arms around me. Another woman commented on my embrace, she said, “Your embrace is fulfilling on many levels”. Another woman said, "We spend our days all closed down. It's wonderful to be with you two because your hearts are open."

10. The true milongueros that Marsha danced with in Buenos Aires all had a great heart connection with her. But most of them do not even know it because they assume every one dances this way. We know that in the US that is not the case. This is a fresh approach that is different and needed. That is why we want to spread Tango From The Heart across the country and all over the world.
